Get rewarded for adjusting your electric vehicle charging on days when demand for energy is forecasted to peak.
Enroll in PSE Flex EV and receive $50 upfront. Plus, you'll earn $0.50 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity saved during Flex events. You’ll also be automatically entered to win one of two $250 gift cards every month (except October and April) just for enrolling.
If you charge at home, there are two methods you can choose to participate - through your vehicle’s onboard telematics or through your connected Level 2 charger. Please note you can enroll in either program, but not both at the same time.

What happens after I enroll?
Depending on the method you choose to participate, PSE will send a remote signal to either your vehicle or charger that will pause charging for a short time on days when there is high demand for electricity, known as “Flex events.” For example, a Flex event might occur on a day with hotter or colder weather than normal when we tend to use more energy to cool and heat our homes.
Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., typically lasting between 2-4 hours each, and will never take place on holidays (see list below). Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to March 31 and summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30.
Holidays
- New Years
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
Participation in Flex events is entirely voluntary, you can always choose not to participate. Please note that electric vehicles will only be dispatched if they are charging at the home address registered with PSE.
Need a new charger? Upgrade and save
If not using your vehicle’s onboard telematics, enrollment in PSE Flex will require a Level 2 charger, which provides faster and more convenient electric vehicle charging at home. If you’re interested in upgrading to Level 2 charging, PSE Up & Go Electric Home Charging offers residential electric customers rebates up to $300 – and up to $600 for income-qualified customers through our Empower Mobility program. You can even receive your rebate instantly when you purchase a charger through the PSE Marketplace.

Do I qualify?
Enrollment is available to all residential customers who have an AMI meter, whose electricity is provided by PSE, and who have a qualifying electric vehicle model or Level 2 charger.
Can I participate in Time-of-Use and enroll my vehicle or charger?
Customers who enrolled in a TOU rate plan featuring Peak Time Rebates (Sch. 317 or Sch. 324) are not eligible to simultaneously participate in PSE’s other demand response programs (Flex Rewards/Flex Smart/Flex EV) and will be opted out accordingly. However, customers who are currently enrolled in a standalone TOU rate plan (Sch. 307 or Sch. 327) are eligible to simultaneously enroll in both Flex Rewards/Flex Smart/Flex EV and TOU. If you have any questions, contact TOU@hkange.net.
How do I enter to win the $250 gift card?
Participants who enroll are automatically entered to win one of two $250 gift cards. Giveaways will be drawn each month during the summer season (May through September) and winter season (November through March).
After I enroll, where can I receive support?
The program is administered on behalf of PSE by AutoGrid who (oversees/is responsible for) program implementation, payment processing, and customer support. Enrolled customers can manage their accounts through the FlexSaver portal provided by AutoGrid. For the fastest assistance, you can contact AutoGrid's customer support directly at flex@hkange.net or by calling 1-888-292-0502.
What is an AMI meter?
Enrolling your charger requires that your home be equipped with AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), the current standard for metering technology that facilitates two-way communication between meters and PSE. As part of PSE’s Meter Upgrade Project, nearly 2 million meters in our service area were upgraded to AMI between 2018 and 2023. For more information, please visit the Meter Upgrade Project.
Can I enroll in Flex EV and also Flex Rewards?
No, if you are signed up for Flex Rewards, you cannot enroll your vehicle or charger at the same time. However, if you own a smart thermostat, you can enroll it in the Flex Smart program.

Flex events
What is a Flex event and why does it occur?
Our experts can predict periods with heightened demand for electricity based on a range of different criteria, which we call “Flex events.” For example, a Flex event might occur on a day with weather hotter or colder than normal, when we tend to use more energy to heat and cool our homes and businesses. With collective action from the community, we can prevent spikes in energy usage that strain the grid and ensure there is enough energy to go around.
What happens during a Flex event?
Once you’ve enrolled, PSE will periodically send a remote signal to pause charging For Flex events, during the most critical hours when demand for electricity is at its highest.
Can I resume charging during a Flex event?
Yes, you can always choose not to participate in a Flex event by manually adjusting your charging. You are always in control and PSE will never lock your vehicle or device from charging.
When could a Flex event occur and how often?
Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will never take place on holidays (see list below). Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to Mar. 31 and starting in 2024, summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30. For Flex Rewards, there will be no more than 20 Flex events per season.

- New Years
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day

Do I have to reduce or stop charging my vehicle during Flex events?
No, modifying your vehicle’s charging during Flex events is 100% voluntary for customers. There is no requirement to participate.
Flex EV participation
What if my request to enroll my vehicle or charger is declined?
If inaccurate customer or account information is provided during the sign-up process, it can result in a failed enrollment. If this happens, you may be notified by your manufacturer or Autogrid of what went wrong. If you need additional assistance signing up, you can always call our toll-free help line 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday-Friday at 1-888-292-0502 or email flex@hkange.net.
When and how will I receive my enrollment reward?
You will receive your enrollment reward in the form of an e-gift card fulfilled by Tango within 4-6 weeks. You also receive $.50 for each kilowatt hour reduced during Flex events, to be paid out monthly.
Can I continue participating if I move to a new house?
Yes, as long as your new residence meets the program qualifications. To ensure you remain enrolled at your new address, please contact us at 1-888-292-0502..
Can I get assistance installing my new charger?
Yes! You can get assistance through PSE’s contractor network of Recommended Energy Professionals. Just log in with your PSE account and select “EV Charger” under product category. If you have yet to purchase a charger, these contractors can also provide an instant rebate for qualified Level 2 chargers at the time of installation. Eligible income-qualified customers can receive incentives for installation as well as enhanced instant rebates for Level 2 chargers. Get a referral today.
How does my vehicle or charger communicate with PSE?
Your vehicle or charger uses Wi-Fi to communicate with PSE, similar to how it can communicate with your phone when you adjust it remotely.
Is my data secure?
Yes. PSE takes the responsibility to maintain the confidentiality and security of customer information seriously. Data collected in the Flex EV program may include:
- Charging status
- Charging rate
- Charging duration
- Total energy used
- Plug status (plugged in or not)
- Location during each charging session each day during the term (only for customers who enroll through their EV's onboard telematics)
This data is securely transmitted through encrypted connections to PSE. Learn more about PSE’s privacy policy.
How does PSE determine how much energy I save during a Flex event?
We calculate your energy savings for each Flex event using a baseline. This baseline is created by averaging the energy consumption of the four highest-usage days among the five weekdays before the event. PSE will connect to your electric vehicle or charger to reduce your energy use during the event, with the goal of lowering your energy use below this baseline. We also consider energy usage in the two hours before the event and the hour after the event, and make adjustments based on higher or lower usage during that time (e.g., 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. for a 5-7 p.m. event).
