Flex Rewards is a voluntary program that incentivizes customers to take simple steps to conserve during Flex events - days when electricity usage is forecasted to peak. When demand is high, individual actions such as turning off large appliances can collectively make a big impact in balancing the electrical load.
You may have already received notifications of Flex events, but enrolling in Flex Rewards offers you the opportunity to be rewarded for your participation!
Sign up and receive $25 along with $15 for every year that you stay enrolled. Plus, you'll earn $1 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity saved during events.
Also by enrolling, you’ll be automatically entered to win one of two $250 gift cards each month (except October and April).
Do you qualify for Flex Rewards?
Flex Rewards is available to all PSE residential customers who have an AMI meter and whose home heating and/or cooling is provided by PSE electricity. Customers who heat their home with natural gas and do not cool with PSE electricity do not qualify.
What happens after I enroll?
Once you’ve enrolled in Flex Rewards, you will receive notifications of upcoming events, through either email or text, asking you to take action.
Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., typically lasting between 2-4 hours each, and will never take place on holidays (see list below). Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to March 31 and summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30.
Holidays
- New Years
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Thanksgiving
- Christmas
Participation in Flex events is entirely voluntary and there is no penalty if you choose not to participate.

If I’m receiving Flex event notifications now, does that mean I’m already enrolled to earn rewards?
No, it doesn’t. Flex event notifications are a part of several PSE programs and do not necessarily indicate you are enrolled to receive rewards from PSE Flex. If you’d like to either enroll or check enrollment status for Flex Rewards, visit the FlexSaver portal.
If you’d like to stop receiving notifications for Flex Rewards, you can choose to opt-out in the notification email/text that you received or by contacting PSE at 1-888-292-0502. Note that receiving one mode of communication is a requirement to stay enrolled and receive rewards.
Can I participate in Flex Rewards and also enroll my smart device?
No, if you are enrolled in Flex Rewards, you cannot simultaneously enroll in our separate programs for smart devices like smart thermostats or EV chargers and receive additional incentives.
Can I participate in both Time-of-Use and Flex Rewards?
Customers who enrolled in a TOU rate plan featuring Peak Time Rebates (Sch. 317 or Sch. 324) are not eligible to simultaneously participate in PSE’s other demand response programs (Flex Rewards/Flex Smart/Flex EV) and will be opted out accordingly. However, customers who are currently enrolled in a standalone TOU rate plan (Sch. 307 or Sch. 327) are eligible to simultaneously enroll in both Flex Rewards/Flex Smart/Flex EV and TOU.
What is a Flex event and why does it occur?
Our experts can predict periods with heightened demand for electricity based on a range of different criteria, which we call “Flex events.” For example, a Flex event might occur on a day with weather hotter or colder than normal, when we tend to use more energy to heat and cool our homes and businesses. With collective action from the community, we can prevent spikes in energy usage that strain the grid and ensure there is enough energy to go around.
How can I save energy during a Flex event?
Minimize appliance use: Delay using large appliances like your clothes dryer and dishwasher until after the Flex event is over.
Use smart lighting: Upgrade to smart lightbulbs and you’ll be able to turn off your lights using a mobile device. Saving energy is easy when you can remotely turn off lights from anywhere—even when you’re not home!

What is a kilowatt-hour and how does it relate to earning rewards?
Once enrolled, you'll earn $1 for every kilowatt-hour of electricity saved during Flex events. A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a way to measure how much electricity you are using over time. Examples of activities that use approximately one kilowatt-hour of electricity include:
- 1 dishwasher cycle
- 30 minutes of using a 2,000-watt oven
- 17 minutes of using a 3,500-watt air conditioner
How can I see how much energy I’ve saved/how much money I’ve earned?
You can log into your FlexSaver account to view your cumulative season earnings. At the end of the season (Mar. 31 for winter and Sept. 30 for summer), we’ll send you an email with instructions on how to redeem your reward.
How will I be notified of an upcoming event?
You will be notified via email and/or SMS text messages. To set your notification preferences, log into FlexSaver. You must opt in to receive at least one type of notification in order to participate.
How does PSE determine how much energy I save during a Flex event?
We calculate your energy savings for each Flex event using a baseline. This baseline is created by averaging the energy consumption of the four highest-usage days among the five weekdays before the event. We also consider energy usage in the two hours before the event and the hour after the event, and make adjustments based on higher or lower usage during that time (e.g., 3-4 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. for a 5-7 p.m. event).
When could a Flex event occur and how often?
Flex events will only occur during the hours of 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will never take place on holidays (see list below). Winter events can occur from Nov. 1 to Mar. 31 and starting in 2024, summer events can occur from May 1 to Sept. 30. For Flex Rewards, there will be no more than 20 Flex events per season.

When and how will I receive my rewards?
You will receive your enrollment reward in the form of an e-gift card fulfilled by Tango within 4-6 weeks. Then, at the end of every season, you will also receive payment in the form of an e-gift card for energy saved ($1 per kilowatt-hour) during Flex events.
How do I enter to win the $250 gift card?
Participants who enroll are automatically entered to win one of two $250 gift cards. Giveaways will be drawn each month during the summer season (May through September) and winter season (November through March).
What is an AMI meter?
Enrolling your charger requires that your home be equipped with AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure), the current standard for metering technology that facilitates two-way communication between meters and PSE. As part of PSE’s Meter Upgrade Project, nearly 2 million meters in our service area were upgraded to AMI between 2018 and 2023. For more information, please visit the Meter Upgrade Project.
Where can I find more information about the program?
How is Flex Rewards administered and where can I receive support?

Enrolled customers can manage their accounts through the FlexSaver portal provided by AutoGrid.
